One
of the first of my cravings, when I've first became vegetarian (and then
also as a vegan),
where
some warm & fluffy Sausage Rolls. And this craving started a whole
revolution in my little kitchen!
I’ve
always been a naturally inquisitive cook – not shy to try different cuisines and
food items
– and generally experiment with recipes. So it was really a
non-brainer that I eventually
had to start to veganise things, such as Sausage
Rolls!
Following, you will find a basic and well-established recipe for my Make-Your-Own Sausage
Rolls,
but as usual, don’t be shy to experiment and try to amend the below as
you like!
For
6 large Sausage Rolls you’ll need:
• 1
ready-roll, chilled puff pastry sheet
(most supermarket own brands are vegan,
but make sure you check the ingredients!
We use “Chef Select” from Lidl UK for
£0.85)
• 4 –
6 defrosted Vegan Sausages
(such as Linda McCartney “Vegetarian Sausages”, Iceland’s “No-Porkies Vegan Sausages”
or Morrison’s own brand “Meat-free
Sausages”)
• 1
medium sized, chopped red onion
•
50g vegan cheese
(literally whichever you fancy! We love Koko’s Cheddar as well
as Violife
– or any of the supermarket own, vegan, “free-from” brands)
• 1.5
Tablespoons of Hot Sauce
(alternatively you can use Ketchup, BBQ sauce,
Peri-Peri sauce – be creative!)
•
Salt & Pepper
In a
bowl, mash up the defrosted sausages (depending on how heavily you’d like your rolls filled you can either use 4 or 6 sausages)
and mix together with the chopped onion and hot sauce. Grate & add the vegan cheese before you season with salt & pepper
to taste. Unroll the puff pastry sheet and place on a non-stick baking paper
(if you don’t have any baking paper, use the white, non-stick paper the pastry sheet comes with!).
With a butter knife, carefully divide the pastry into 6 same sized, rectangle pieces & add heaped spoons of the filling onto
the right side of each piece. Carefully cut some stripes (or punch some airholes) onto the empty left side
of each pastry dough before you fold it over the filled right side.

Bake
in the oven at 180 Degree Celsius / Fan until golden brown (15 to 20 min.).
These
rolls are extremely versatile, so don’t hesitate to experiment with the kind of
dough, sausages,
cheese and sauce you’re using – as well as adding other
ingredients & herbs / spices!

very forward to read about your verdicts in the comment section below! Until then..,
