Top 5 Swaps to Make in 2019

2018 has come to an end - and what a year it has been!
I’ve embarked on a journey of experimenting, documenting & sharing my vegan, cruelty-free and reduced waste lifestyle with this NVG project and look very forward to continue even “bigger & better” in 2019, painting the world more green one step at a time!

I'm extremely excited to see what these new 365 days will bring and I know one thing for sure:
There will be even more amazing changes upon us! And in light of that, I'm psyched to share with you …
My Top 5 Swaps to Make in 2019

No 1: Swap Detergent for a Laundry Wash Ball

Wash balls are an eco-friendly solution to replace laundry detergent, lasting for up to 1000 washes. Filled with natural mineral & magnetic pellets, so called "Wash Eggs" are safe for all colours and fabrics and will leave your washing sparkling clean - even on a 30 Degree wash!
It's great for sensitive skin as you can ditch all detergent or softener, with many of the Laundry Wash Balls being hypoallergenic! With many different manufacturers offering these Wash Balls, the most well known and commonly available brand is Ecoegg Laundry Egg, which even offer them in different scents & colours!

I've opted for, trialled & successfully tested (to be able to promote & confirm all of the above!)
the Danish brand Qualtex's "Oko Vaske Bold" e.g. Eco Wash Ball which is available for £6.92 on Amazon.co.uk

No 2: Swap Plastic for Mesh

Mesh bags are not only more environmentally friendly due to being reusable (& washable!), but are also breathable & prevent "sweating" of fruit & vegtables. They're lightweight (so won't add weight to your produce at the supermarket scales / checkout)
and can even be used for heavier items due to their extreme durability.

Made of Eco-friendly polyester, I went for the OMALOO Reusable Produce Bags Mesh Bags
in a set of 6 (mix of different sizes) for £5.99 on Amazon.co.uk

No 3: Swap Self-Loathe for Self-Love

Feeling sorry for ourselves is our mind trying to catapult us into a certain mood and ultimately cause a reaction. It’s literally a “mind game” caused by your own thoughts. You can either let it spiral out of control and subsequently ruin your (and other people’s!) day(s) - or you consciously sit, breath, clear your head, stop your train of thought and start counteracting this with kind & positive words:
🙏🏼 Life is good and I’m grateful for being alive, being healthy, for having clothes on my body, a roof over my head, a warm place to sleep and food in my tummy. I’m grateful for family and friends I can rely on & that love me. Life is good. 🙏🏼

No 4: Swap Tampons for Menstrual Cups

Some of you might already be familiar with my 'Me Luna' Menstrual Cup Review post, introducting this practical and extremely environmentally friendly monthly hygiene product. One woman will on average use 250 tampons per year
- causing over 1 kilo (!) of trash that can easily be prevented by switching to a reusable menstrual cup.

In addition to this - and to prevent even more wastage, you can now find a whole range of Washable Pads and Sponges on offer at Amazon, Etsy and co.! You can learn more about so called "Eco-Menstrual" products over at a lovely page called moontimes.co.uk.

No 5: Swap Meat, Egg & Diary for Plant-based
